WC Welcomes Seven New Coaches to Winter Sports
Meet the new faces on our sidelines this Winter
Varsity Boys Basketball | QUintin aden
WC formally welcomed Coach Aden as the new Head Coach of Varsity Boys Basketball in June of this year.
Aden graduated from Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Ohio, with a degree in Sports Management. He was a men’s basketball team member and served as team captain.
Aden began his coaching career at Harvest Preparatory School, where he held the positions of JV Head Basketball Coach and Varsity Assistant Coach. During his time serving at Harvest Prep, the Varsity Boys were blessed to win a State Championship in 2019. Following the State Championship, Aden accepted the Head Coaching position at Independence High school, where he successfully took on the challenge of rebuilding the boys’ basketball program.
Coach Aden has no doubt in his mind that God has strategically placed him at Worthington Christian to not only serve as a coach, but to also serve as a mentor as he helps mold his players into young men who honor the Lord.
Aden is the Physical Education and Health teacher at Yorktown Middle School. He is married to Sydney, and they have two children, Qinsley (4) and Jonas (2). Aden and his family attend One Church in Gahanna, Ohio.
Varsity Boys Basketball | Malcom Smith
Coach Malcolm Smith was born in Chicago, where much of his family still resides. Coach Smith attended Tuskegee University in Alabama, earning his bachelor’s in sales and marketing.
Smith has coached for four years, winning a state championship in Virginia class 6A before moving to Columbus. Upon arriving in Columbus, Smith’s first coaching position was with Thomas Worthington before moving on to Independence High School, where he served alongside WC’s new Head Coach, Quentin Aden.
Coach Smith grew up in a nurturing Christian household, and his faith journey started in childhood, growing up in the church with a strong family of believers in Christ.
Freshman Boys Basketball | JaQuent Austin
Coach JQ is a first-year coach, but he is no stranger to the sport of basketball.
Coach JQ began playing and developed an undeniable love for the game since he was twelve years old. He has played for school teams, as well as recreation and competition teams, with numerous awards and recognitions for his talents in basketball.
Competing as a coach has been a new experience for Austin, but he is fully embracing this new side of the game.
He has been married for eight years and he and his wife have have three children, and are expecting their 4th!
Coach JQ believes “Hard work beats talent, when talent doesn’t work hard.”
Bowling | David Luckett (WC ’97)
David has joined the Warrior Bowling Program as an assistant coach. After graduating from WC, David served for nearly nine years on active military duty in the Ohio National Guard and the Air Force as a Law Enforcement Specialist and Security Forces Fire Team Leader.
Coach Luckett received his Associate’s Degree in Network Security Administration (’14) and Bachelor’s Degree in Network and Communications Management from DeVry (’15). He then received his Master of Business Administration Degree from Fisher College of Business at the Ohio State University (19), focusing on Organizational Behavior. He currently serves as a Lead Project Manager for Discover and also serves with the Ohio Air National Guard as an Intelligence Analyst.
Coach Luckett has extensive educational and military coaching experience and is currently working on his Fundamentals of Bowling certification through the United States Bowling Congress.
Through his sanctifying grace, God continues to bless David, who attends Five14 Church, where he helps lead a men’s group. He recently joined a fellowship of Christians at work who meet weekly to pray for the company, community, and church of believers.
Eighth Grade Boys Basketball | Ryan Yeary
Coach Yeary joins the WC’s eighth-grade program alongside Coach Little. Yeary has been a lifelong basketball fan, growing up in a basketball family in Fairborn, Ohio. Ryan has played basketball at the high school and collegiate levels.
Coach Yeary has eight years of experience coaching youth basketball, emphasizing winning on the court the right way, but, more importantly, teaching players how to learn and grow from adversity. “Trust in the Lord with all of your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” Proverbs 3:5
Yeary currently works in the Insurance industry. He has been married for 19 years, and he and his wife, Christina, have three children. Their family attends Adventure Church.
Seventh Grade Girls Basketball | Trevor Lorton
Trevor Lorton joins WC’s Girls Basketball Program as the Head Coach for Seventh Grade Girls. Coach Lorton has lived in the Westerville area since 1983 and graduated from Westerville North in 1995. He has worked for Mac Tools for 24 years, helping small business owners get their start.
Lorton is an avid Indiana basketball fan who has experience coaching soccer and basketball at the club level. Coach Lorton operated his own soccer club, the Westerville Titans, for three years. He was an assistant coach alongside WC’s Varsity Girls coach, Aaron Davis, for the Phoenix Blast this past spring.
Since dedicating his life to Christ in 1996, Lorton, who enjoys music and the arts, has been involved in a variety of music ministries, currently serving on the worship team at Lifepoint’s Westerville campus.
Trevor has been married to his wife Holly for 25 years and has three children, Chloe (24), Gabe (21), and Ryland (14).
Seventh Grade Boys Basketball | Jeff Thompson
Coach Thompson joins WC’s seventh-grade program alongside Coach Colley. Having excelled in basketball from a young age, Jeff ultimately pursued his passion at the collegiate level, where he played at Malone University.
His collegiate career honed his skills on the court and instilled in him the importance of perseverance and strategic thinking. Jeff remains actively involved in the Worthington Christian community, where he finds joy in mentoring young athletes, imparting his knowledge of the game, and shaping the next generation of players.
With a solid foundation built on Christ, integrity, hard work, and a commitment to excellence, Coach Thompson seeks to make a positive impact both on and off the court.
Thompson currently serves as Executive VP at Schiavello International. Coach Thompson and his wife Suzanne are parents to three boys – Logan (15), Lincoln (13), and Gunner (10).
