Worthington Christian prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary

Exactly fifty years ago, in early August of 1973, Worthington Christian School was preparing to open its doors to students for the very first time. That moment came as the fruit of years of praying and dreaming and planning for the establishment of an educational institution in Central Ohio rooted in God’s Word and ways. Many prayed and dreamed that such an educational institution would serve as a light to the Central Ohio community and beyond, training up students and graduates who would carry the light of Christ into their God-given calling.

Since that time, countless men and women have committed their prayers, time, energy, and resources to this shared vision. The results have been dramatic, and God’s faithfulness has been undeniable. School enrollment, leaders, facilities, and technology have changed, grown, and flourished at Worthington Christian over the last five decades…

—What started as 123 students in preschool through sixth grade has grown to over 900 students in kindergarten through 12th grade.

—What started as one building housing all grades has developed into many academic and athletic facility expansions.

—What began as a graduating class of ten has multiplied to become an alumni base of thousands.

And just as the morning sun grows warmer and brighter as a day continues, so too, we believe, WC’s brightest days are ahead. Proverbs 4:18 says, “The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day.”

As a school community, we want to approach this anniversary year as an extraordinary opportunity to celebrate those who have paved the way to make WC what it is today and rejoice in God’s faithfulness to the school thus far.

The new Head of School shares his excitement for this historic milestone and the importance of taking time to reflect, remember, and celebrate it. In his words, “One way we honor the legacy [of WC] is to simply say ‘thank you’ to those who have paid such a deep price to get us where we are today and to make sure that we acknowledge what those people have done. But the way to truly acknowledge a legacy is to carry that vision and that dream forward into the next generation and the next and beyond.”

Over the coming months, there will be many opportunities to learn about, remember, and celebrate WC’s 50th anniversary. Warrior Warehouse will feature 50th-focused spirit gear. The school’s social media platforms will share glimpses of WC over the years. And there will be various 50th anniversary events for alumni and the school community at-large.
