Former Otterbein University standout will lead the Warriors.

Worthington Christian School proudly announces the appointment of Ron Severance as the new Head Football Coach for the Warriors. Severance replaces Jeff Hartings, who stepped down in December.

Severance is no stranger to the Worthington Christian community and the football program. Severance’s wife of 29 years, Ashley, is a 1990 Worthington Christian graduate, as are his daughters, McKenzie (WC ’16) and Megan (WC ’18). Severance credits his family for encouraging and supporting him to pursue what he describes as his “dream job.” Severance served as offensive coordinator, quarterback, wide receiver, and special teams coach for the Warriors from 2018-2020.

Severance, a Worthington native, is considered one of the best wide receivers to have played for the Thomas Worthington Cardinals, earning him a scholarship to Eastern Michigan University. Severance transferred to Otterbein University after two seasons at EMU, and he made a name for himself, earning five All-American Awards. Severance remains the school record holder for the most receptions in a game (16), season (92), and career (207). He was inducted into the Otterbein Hall of Fame in 2013.

Severance began formulating his coaching philosophy while serving in a non-football capacity with the New England Patriots for ten years. Observing the legendary coach Bill Belichick and up-and-coming coach Josh McDaniels, Severance grew passionate about developing student-athletes on and off the field.

“We are incredibly blessed to have Coach Severance take charge of our high school football program to lead our young men closer to Christ and grow their love for the game of football, said Tony Earp, Athletic Director. “By building on the hard work and blessings of those who have come before, Ron is eager to take the reins and lead the Warriors forward.”

Earp continues, “Coach Severance’s heart for Christ, football acumen, commitment to student-athlete development, and organizational expertise are evident in his extensive experience in football and beyond. God is great, and on behalf of the Worthington Christian family, we welcome Coach Severance and his family.”

As Head Football Coach, Severance will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Worthington Christian football, guiding student-athletes to excel athletically, academically, and spiritually. His leadership will focus on skills and technique while instilling values of integrity, resilience, and sportsmanship, empowering players to become leaders within the team and the broader community.

“I am honored and excited to be named Head Football Coach,” said Severance. “I am committed to building a program that fosters excellence in every aspect of student-athlete development.

“Together with the coaching staff, we will work tirelessly to cultivate a culture of competitiveness, character, and camaraderie. I look forward to mentoring and inspiring the next generation of Warriors.”

Severance’s appointment signals an exciting new chapter for Worthington Christian football as the program looks ahead to continued growth, achievement, and success under his leadership.
