In the winter of 1998, Worthington Christian School marked its 25th-year celebration with a special worship service at then-Grace Brethren Church. Long-time school superintendent Taylor Smith led the two-hour program. He opened the service with a very fitting scripture verse, reading from Psalm 127, “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain.” He explained that the 25th-year celebration aimed to be a rededication of the school, recalling the vision the LORD gave to the men and women who formed the group now known as WC’s founding members.

The service included worship through music, prayer, and testimonies. The music was led by worship pastor Andrew Irvin (WC ’85) and elementary school student choirs. The testimonies were shared by alumni and faculty, including Wade Harrison (WC ’84), Dan Hammers (long-time faculty member and Grace Brethren pastor), and the Rettstatt Family. There were three congregational prayers offered up throughout the service. A prayer to honor the school’s past was led by Christian Fellowship Church Associate Pastor Mike Gauch (WC ’79). A prayer to honor the school’s present was led by Grace Baptist Church Assistant Pastor Terry Thompson. The final prayer, dedicating the school’s future was led by Grace Brethren Church Founding Pastor Jim Custer.

Following the service, all in attendance were invited to a reception with a cake sized to fit the historic occasion.
