WC Welcomes Jake Ferrier as Director of Spiritual Formation

When Head of School Dr. Mike Hayes arrived at Worthington Christian, he embarked on a year-long Listening Tour to hear the hopes and dreams of the WC community for the school’s future. It quickly became clear that the primary dream for the school is to preserve our core biblical beliefs, invite students into a deep, abiding relationship with Christ, and help them develop the mind of Christ—the core aspect of our mission.

As WC seeks to create an environment in which the faith of students and staff can flourish more fully, we are excited to announce the creation of the role of Director of Spiritual Formation.

This director will be responsible for providing programming and care to promote holistic discipleship of students, families, and staff. Specific areas of focus include K-12 chapel coordination, service-learning integration from a faith perspective, pastoral care, and connections with local churches. Additionally, the person will help us integrate spiritual formation with the existing experiences of the school such as Upper School Family Time and will provide one-on-one and small group mentorship and discipleship.

WC is thrilled to announce the appointment of Jake Ferrier to this new role, starting on May 28, 2024. Jake is no stranger to the WC family, having served as a Boys’ Varsity Basketball Assistant Coach for the past two seasons with the head coaching responsibilities for the junior varsity team during that time. Furthermore, he has been engaged with the life of the varsity and junior varsity teams as a chaplain during this season.

Over the past nine years, Jake has served in the full-time role of missionary field staff for Cru. He has ministered to and with students on three college campuses in central Ohio, engaging them through evangelism, discipleship, small groups, leadership development, and mission trips to different parts of the world. He also has held the position of international partnership leader with Cru, mobilizing students and staff to travel to the United Kingdom on short- and long-term mission trips for evangelism and discipleship. In terms of educational preparation, Jake holds the Master of Ministry degree from Cedarville University with an undergraduate degree in biology from Wittenberg University.

Not only has Jake been a part of our employee family, but his wife, Lily, taught in our intervention services department for the first six years of their marriage. They now have three kids, Adeline (3 years), Calvin (2 years), and Theo, who was born the day after Thanksgiving last fall.

“Jake brings a passionate heart for Jesus and students, his rich experiences, and a buoyant attitude to this role,” said Dr. Hayes in a letter to WC staff and families. “Please pray for him, his family, and the school during this time of transition and help me welcome him to our full-time staff. I am looking forward to seeing what God does through Jake’s gifts and service and to working with him in this critical role.”

Join us in welcoming Jake to this new position!
