Warrior Travel Basketball for Boys and Girls

COBA Travel Basketball is different from Warrior League, which takes place in Late Winter/Early Spring.

Purpose: To provide kids grades 3-6 with an opportunity to play basketball in a more structured environment than that of a recreation team. COBA teams are intended to provide competitive games and practices for players who wish to compete at a higher level. Think of this as a starting point for those who have ambitions playing Middle School Basketball.

Experience, Skill, and Athleticism: Experience, skill, and athleticism are considered when selecting team members. Sometimes, players lack the necessary tools to participate effectively in practices and games. While experience, skill, and athleticism aren’t the only considerations, they are an important part of the selection process.

Commitment: All our teams will be taught the same fundamental skills as our high school teams. Teams will practice 2-3 times per week in the preseason. Once the season starts, there will be an average of three basketball events per week. The season ends in mid-February with a league tournament.

COBA Fee: The cost to play on a COBA team is $325 per participant. The fee covers the COBA entry fee, preview tournament, post-season tournament, official assignor fee, equipment purchases, and other miscellaneous costs. It does not include a uniform (shorts, jersey, and warm-up top), which can be purchased from the BSN Team Shop.

FAQ

When does the season start?
Practices begin mid October. First games are Nov 16-17th.

How many games do we play a year?
Each coach will make their own schedule. 5th & 6th grade teams generally play between 20-25 games. 3rd & 4th grade teams play between 15-20 games.

What time do the teams practice?
Due to gym constraints during the week, practice times will vary. Gym space is often more available on Wed evening and on the weekends. The head coach of each team will schedule practice times and then communicate those times with parents.

What days of the week are games played on and what times are the games?
Games will be played on Saturdays and Sundays

Does everyone on the team get to play in the games?
Each team member gets to play in every game, but playing time is not equal.

How many players do we keep on the team?
Ideally each team has a minimum of 8 players and a maximum of 10 players. There are times when smaller or larger teams have formed, but 8-10 is the norm.

Do you have to attend WCS to play on the team?
Our preference is to have teams consisting of WCS students. If a grade level does not have enough students to try out, or if a particular grade level does not have enough players who are ready for the challenges of playing in a more competitive league, we consider adding non WCS participants. In addition, there are instances where we allow non WCS students who have a connection with the school in some way.
