Academics
At WC, we believe no one can make it through life alone, and our K–12 school counseling program is an example of our intentionality in coming alongside students to equip them to be their best for God’s glory.
Classroom Guidance
The counseling department at Worthington Christian works collaboratively with teachers and parents to support the emotional, spiritual, and academic needs of our students. We do this through the following services:
- Spiritual and prayer support
- Emotional and mental health support
- Academic guidance
- Character development and life skills
- Parent and family support
- Crisis intervention and support
- Group counseling
- College and career readiness and guidance
- Biblical worldview integration
Meet your Counselors
Our counseling team consists of four skills professionals across our schools.

Jenny Harden, MEd, LPSC
Jenny is a school counselor serving grades K–3. She teaches classroom lessons on various topics, including friendship skills, conflict resolution, anger management, bullying, safety, digital citizenship, and managing anxiety.

Janelle Dethloff, MSW, LISW-S
Janelle works with grades 4–8 at both the Lower School and Upper School, helping students transition from one building to the next. She focuses on classroom lessons, meets individually with students, and connects with them in small group settings. Topics discussed often include healthy friendships, bullying prevention, digital citizenship, understanding emotions, and study skills.

Kristin MacCaughey, MA, LPPC-S
Kristin is available to students grades 9 –12 for individual mental health support, classroom lessons, and groups.

Cynthia Durbin, MA, LPSC
Cynthia is the school counselor for grades 7–12, providing academic guidance, assistance with scheduling, leading study skills groups, and meeting with parents to address academic concerns.
Student Support
Throughout the year, at the Upper School, counselors plan various schoolwide events to support students’ well-being, including internet safety, bullying prevention, and new student welcome events.
Talk with a counselor
Parents may contact the counseling department with any concerns or if they would like to have their student meet with a counselor. Counselors can meet with students on a short-term basis and also help connect families with community counseling resources.
