HONORING OUR PAST: LONG-STANDING LEADERS

Two of Worthington Christian’s longest-standing leaders were present in the school during the 1980s. Beginning in 1980, William (“Bill”) Burby served as superintendent until 1987. It was during his tenure that there were several significant building and campus transitions. In 1988, Taylor Smith became WC’s superintendent after serving as the middle school principal for four years and assistant superintendent for two of those years. Serving as superintendent until 2004, he is the school’s longest-standing leader to date. Smith shares of this reality, “I served at Worthington Christian for 21 years, and the success of that tenure is highly attributed to the wonderful staff that I worked with. God gave us gifted leaders, teachers, staff, and workers…They were incredible people, and they helped lead Worthington Christian to where it is today…And my success was only a part of that by working with them. We had great families, dedicated families. Working with the staff that was here and that we continued to add to over those years…that just led to where we are today: a great school, still great leadership, and great success of students.”
