Athletics

Brave and experienced. Battle-tested. Team-oriented. It’s what makes us Warriors.

Just like any athletic program, we prepare our athletes to compete, and we compete to win. But that’s just a small part of what our athletics program is all about. Our commitment is to cultivate young women and men of character who value doing things the right way.

Athletics is real life disguised as play, and it presents us with tremendous learning opportunities. It is where iron sharpens iron, where athletes can find purpose in teamwork, and triumph in selflessness. Where being a Warrior means being a Warrior for Christ. When, down the road, the games will have changed but the life lessons our coaches teach still apply. It’s what makes the experience of being a Warrior greater than any games lost or titles won.

Learn what it means to be a Warrior Athlete.

Kindergarten

At this young age we want kids to be active, moving, and having fun in their play. The rules of the game matter less than the spirit of the game, and the joy associated with participating. And we also know that teaching and modeling behavior that points to Christ helps to establish an early baseline of character and sportsmanship they will grow into over time.

We offer youth flag football and youth basketball opportunities at the Kindergarten level that also are open to the broader community. Additionally, summer camps are offered across a variety of sports to introduce young athletes to a number of different opportunities.

Grades 1-6

As our students rise through the Lower School, the opportunities also increase to become involved in athletics. In addition to our youth football and basketball programs, youth baseball and COBA basketball become options.

Our flag football program spans all Lower School grades with tackle football available in fifth and sixth grade. Also in sixth grade, young ladies can join Girls on the Run, a community-based program to inspire young girls mentally and physically as they prepare to compete in a 5k run.

Summer camps continue to provide opportunities for young, aspiring athletes to test and improve their skills, try a new sport, and create new experiences with new and old friends alike.

Grades 7-8

By now, many young athletes have found their sport or sports of choice. They continue to develop as players and teammates. And now, for the first time, they get to represent WC by wearing the red and gold.

Separate athletic teams exist for seventh graders and eighth graders in most sports, which provides more opportunity to participate. All athletes will learn what it means to represent WC as a competitor – a Warrior – and to approach sports as an opportunity to glorify God in everything we do.

In all, we offer 11 different athletic opportunities.

Grades 9-12

Most of our Upper School students will enjoy an athletic career at WC that produces memories for a lifetime. Whether it’s an opportunity to compete for the title or realizing there’s room to participate here, WC athletics fulfills a deep desire to belong and contribute to a team – whether at the freshman, junior varsity, or varsity level.

Our coaches uphold Worthington Christian’s rich history of athletic excellence. Yet it’s how our athletes play the games here that matters. Each practice, every game, and all sports present opportunities for our athletes to apply what they’ve earned about competing – and walking out their faith with character and compassion.

As a member of the Ohio High School Athletic Association, our teams compete in the Central Buckeye League (CBL) across the following sports:
